Remanufactured Transmissions Versus Rebuilt Transmissions

Its been a while that I have been drifting away from this blog's so called niche and that's technology and auto sections.

So I plan in focusing on these areas occasionally,or else this would just out to be a sister to my other blog, make money online through blogging.

Here goes...

Often, when your vehicle starts operating somewhat oddly, a defective transmission might be the reason behind it. To ensure smooth functioning of the vehicle, it is important that you replace a worn out or defective transmission. You can either get an absolutely new transmission unit for your vehicle or go for an used (rebuilt) one. But if you are not ready to compromise with the quality, then you have the option of going in for a remanufactured transmission unit. However, if you are not willing to invest exorbitantly in buying a new transmission, the best economical choice would be to go in for a re-manufactured transmission unit.

The basic difference between a rebuilt and remanufactured transmission unit is that the former has been previously used in an automobile, without any repair or rebuild work done. The latter signifies that the transmission has been rebuilt and installed with new parts, bringing it back to factory quality standards, ensuring durability and performance.

The reasons that people go in for remanufactured transmission units are;

  • Mainly because of the large savings one makes when compared to buying an absolutely new transmission. There are instances when remanufactured transmissions have saved users as much as 50 percent, when compared to buying a new one.
  • Unlike used ones, remanufactured transmissions which are built from authorized mechanic workshops, usually come with quality and service guarantees.
  • Good workshops offer warranties that could be anywhere between 3 years/ 50,000 miles and 5 years / 75,000 miles.
  • However, used transmissions do not come with any sort of warranty. Should there be a warranty, it generally would not be more than 30 days from the date of buying.
  • Used transmissions could last anywhere from 10 days to 10 years. If they offer you a minimum warranty of 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty that covers 100 percent of the parts and labor then a rebuilt transmission is worth looking into.
  • Remanufactured transmission units also undergo rigid testing methods. Test, test and test again is their philosophy. This includes a dynamometer stress testing to ensure quality of its unit.
  • The whole concept of remanufacturing is to rebuild and recondition by inspecting, cleaning and replacing the severely worn or broken parts. With all the parts dissembled, repaired and replaced, remanufactured transmissions ensure high performance and durability.

Although it can be frustrating trying to find the right transmission unit for your vehicle, going in for a rebuilt transmission unit is not a wise option. Unless you happen to exactly know the source of your used transmission unit, the remanufactured transmission is by far the clear winner when it comes to the used transmissions versus the new transmissions clash.

Having said that, going in for a remanufactured transmission unit may cost a little more, but it is definitely a safer and wiser choice.
